Raise the GST? No thanks. Here's five better ways.

The Guardian has come up with 5 ways to reduce the deficit without resorting to increasing the GST:

• Reduce tax concessions on superannuation
• Abolish negative gearing
  Cut down on corporate tax avoidance
• Introduction of land taxes
• Tax socially costly activities
