Long known by the misleading moniker of "climate skeptics", climate science denialists are now being labeled for what they are, anti-science ignoramus's. Skeptics are interested in evidence and obtaining knowledge through systematic doubt and continual testing. It would be a disgrace to equate the fake experts, conspiracy loonies and demagogues that pretend that climate change is not occurring with the rigorous intellectual honesty of skeptics everywhere.
Here now are the Five Stages of Climate Change Denial:
Stage 1: Deny the Problem Exists
Stage 2: Deny We're the Cause
Stage 3: Deny It's a Problem
Stage 4: Deny We can Solve It
Stage 5: It's too Late
It's all too similar to the determined efforts of tobacco lobbyists, who in the face of scientific evidence linking tobacco to lung cancer, attempted to prevent or delay the introduction of regulation.
The Five Stages of Climate Change Denial are similar to the the five characteristics common to scientific denialism:
1) Conspiracy theories;
2) Fake experts;
3) Cherry picking;
4) Impossible expectations of what research can deliver; and
5) Misrepresentation and logical fallacies.
