Scurvy

We all "know" that Captain Cook discovered the cure to Scurvy in the
late 18th Century (in fact it was discovered earlier than that but

11,500 year temple complex in Turkey rewriting story of human evolution

A temple complex in Turkey that predates even the pyramids is rewriting the story of human evolution. The temple was built 11,500 years ago—a staggering 7,000 years before the Great Pyramid, and more than 6,000 years before Stonehenge first took shape. The ruins are so early that they predate villages, pottery, domesticated animals, and even agriculture—the first embers of civilization. In fact, Schmidt thinks the temple itself, built after the end of the last Ice Age by hunter-gatherers, becamer that ember—the spark that launched mankind toward farming, urban life, and all that followed. Elvis Costello on SNL

Way back in the 70's Elvis Costello appeared on Saturday Night Live as a late minute replacement for the Sex Pistols to perform "Less than Zero.” Two bars into the song he stops the performance and the band switch to “Radio Radio”. This, apparently, pissed of the producer of SNL and got him banned for the rest of the century. Regardless, it's great performance.

How to design a power socket

Good design will always be important. Case in point: the Rozetkus 3D power socket. It hides in the wall (posing as single outlet socket) but when required it pops out of the wall and becomes 5 outlets of goodness.

Collapse of Consumer Credit

Long but extremely interesting article on the Collapse of Consumer Credit. It refers to the American situation but may very well have a bearing on the world economy.
